David Marsh
Councillor
What part of the village do you live in?
I'm a relative 'New-Commer' to the village having only lived on Weavers Hill for 7 years. I have however lived in the area all my life, growing up in Goring and also living in East Preston, Rustington and Littlehampton .
What is your background?
I was Teacher by profession and worked in London and Southbourne before spending 35 years working at the Littlehampton Community School. I've been married for over 50 years and have 3 adult sons and 7 grandchildren.
What made you want to become a councillor?
In the last 10 years of my working life I was privileged to be involved in the National development of Citizenship Education. Having taught the subject for a number of years, encouraging active citizenship, I thought it was time to practice what I'd preached!
What do you hope to achieve in the area during your time as councillor?
The ' talk of the town' is the over development of our lovely village. I understand that Arun have to meet housing targets set by Westminster and this has resulted in developments on all sides of the village. As a Parish Council (nothing to do with the church!) we can only work to ensure we achieve the best possible improvements to Angmering and protect the core of our historic settlement.
What are your other interests?
As well as serving as a Parish councillor for the last 6 years I have been both a member and Chair of Governors at Georgian Gardens Primary School in Rustington. I am lifelong fan and Season ticket holder at Brighton & Hove Albion FC and I love reading, TV and my garden.
