Aubrey Fletcher Play Area, Fletchers Field, Angmering.
Arun District Council (ADC) are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Aubrey Fletcher Play Area. Although no documentation can be found, it has been stated that Angmering Parish Council (APC) paid for the refurbishment 20 years ago and ADC would maintain the area.
As items have become unrepairable they have been removed by ADC, leaving the park severely lacking in equipment.
Reports have been taken to APC’s Full Council Meetings on several occasions trying to find a way forward. Information has been given to ADC on how many play areas APC are responsible for and how taking on another play area will effect their budget. Once items were removed and not replaced from the area APC knew that it was being forced to agree to pay towards the refurbishment and take over the play area in order to keep this well used play area in the centre of the village.
At a Full Parish meeting on Monday 10 October 2022, APC unanimously agreed to contribute up to a maximum of £15,000 towards the refurbishment of the play area and to take over the ongoing maintenance. See the below minute for this item and the link to the complete minutes.
RESOLUTION: Cllr. L Hamilton-Steet PROPOSED that a maximum of £15k be put into the project for the delivery of a play park that is fit for 20 years use. To include flooring, fencing and equipment and that if anything on day one is not of such a standard, APC will not pay until it is put right and is fit for purpose. Cllr. A Evans SECONDED and ALL AGREED.

ADC will head the refurbishment project, with input from APC officers. This will include working on a consultation with local residents and input into the final design of the area.
Look out for an online public consultation coming before the end of the year, with a final installation date of July/August 2023. Everything will be done to reduce the timeline and get the play area completed sooner.
